OpenAI Turns ChatGPT into a 'Super-App' with New Apps SDK
OpenAI is revolutionizing ChatGPT by introducing a new Apps SDK, transforming it into a 'super-app'. This update allows users outside the EU to access applications from partners like Booking.com, Canva, Coursera, and more, directly within their conversations or via specific commands.
The new feature enables app developers to customize their app's appearance and connect it to their backend, offering customers premium features upon login. Initially, apps like Booking, Expedia, and Spotify are available, with plans to expand to AllTrails, Doordash, OpenTable, and others later this year.
When an app is first launched, users will be informed about the data being exchanged. OpenAI aims to offer apps for ChatGPT Business, Enterprise, and Edu users, with an app store in the works. ChatGPT can independently call supported apps as part of the conversation, enhancing user experience.
OpenAI's transformation of ChatGPT into a 'super-app' promises to integrate a wide range of useful services directly into conversations. While initial apps are limited to users outside the EU, OpenAI plans to expand this feature to more users and partners throughout the year.
