Open-technology site expansion accelerates under Campus's latest marketing endeavor

In the heart of Bavaria, Germany, the city of Ingolstadt is set to transform its former refinery site into a vibrant, high-tech hub known as the DIGITAL.CAMPUS. This ambitious project, decided by the shareholders' meeting of the IN-Campus GmbH on June 25, 2025, is a joint venture between AUDI AG and IFG Ingolstadt.

The strategic orientation for the DIGITAL.CAMPUS is along five thematic fields: Digital.mobility, Digital.defense & security, Digital.production & medtech, Digital.administration, and Digital.energy & environment. These fields aim to attract technology-oriented companies from Germany and abroad, fostering a collaborative and innovation-driven ecosystem.

Digital Mobility will focus on AI and smart solutions to improve transportation systems and mobility services, aligning with local mobility needs and sustainability goals. The Digital.defense & security field will develop advanced technological solutions to enhance security infrastructure, considering both civil and defense applications. Digital.production & medtech will utilise AI and digital technologies to optimise manufacturing processes and medical technology innovations. Digital.administration will implement digital tools to modernise public administration, improving service delivery efficiency and transparency. Lastly, Digital.energy & environment will integrate smart and sustainable technologies to address environmental challenges and optimise energy usage.

The campus will also emphasise challenge-based learning, involving students and experts in co-developing strategic policy solutions for real-world urban and industrial challenges. This approach fosters entrepreneurial thinking and policy communication skills relevant to digital transformation and sustainability.

The DIGITAL.CAMPUS development is directly at the interface between industry, science, and digitisation. On the 75-hectare area, workplaces, research facilities, and innovation spaces with model character will be created in the coming years. The campus will be developed as a model quarter for intelligent, climate-neutral energy supply under the thematic field "Digital.energy & environment".

The thematic field "Digital.defense & security" takes into account a strategic field of action, with a view to existing competencies in the field of military technology and security technologies in the region. Digital.production & medtech has potential for robotics, artificial intelligence, and medical technology. Digital.mobility focuses on new forms of connected mobility, based on the existing expertise on site.

The IN-Campus GmbH has commissioned internationally active real estate marketer Jones Lang LaSalle (JLL) for future area marketing. The press office announcement for the DIGITAL.CAMPUS is from the City of Ingolstadt. A content profile for the future use of the area has been developed, in close coordination with Audi AG and the IFG for the city of Ingolstadt.

The Mayor of Ingolstadt, Dr. Michael Kern, emphasised that the thematic breadth and content precision of the clusters make a clever connection between location strengths and diversification strategies possible. The goal of the new marketing strategy is to win technology-oriented companies from Germany and abroad for the location. The DIGITAL.CAMPUS is set to become a beacon of innovation and sustainability, driving digital transformation in the region and beyond.
