O2 Telefónica expands network reach, now offering 5G in Krauschwitz
In a significant step towards digital advancement, O2 Telefónica, one of the world's largest telecommunications companies headquartered in Madrid, has upgraded a mobile network site in Krauschwitz, Upper Lusatia to the 5G network.
This move makes O2 Telefónica a leading full-service provider of telecommunications services for both private and business customers, and the leading mobile provider in the consumer market and in the market for innovative partner offers. The company is also a strongly growing provider in the solutions business for corporate customers.
The improved coverage will enable a stable and fast connection in the 5G network for the residents of Krauschwitz, a popular destination for excursions due to its proximity to attractions like the UNESCO World Heritage Site Fürst-Pückler-Park in Bad Muskau and the Rhododendron Park Kromlau.
With the faster connection technology, locals and visitors can now surf smoothly, use digital services like navigation apps, and share their experiences. This upgrade is a milestone in the company's ongoing network expansion in the Görlitz district.
Mallik Rao, Technical and Business Customer Board Member of O2 Telefónica, emphasized the company's commitment to driving Germany's digital advancement through continuous network expansion. The company's expansion measures aim to create a more powerful network for everyone, whether in cities, countryside, or on the go.
In the fiscal year 2024, O2 Telefónica generated sales of 8.5 billion euros with around 7,800 employees. O2 Telefónica is majority-owned by the Spanish telecommunications conglomerate Telefónica S.A. and serves 34.7 million mobile connections (as of 30.06.2025, excluding connections of third-party network operators).
The upgraded site is located along the Neisse. O2 Telefónica has equipped over 1,000 mobile network sites with 5G since the beginning of the year, reaching around 98% of the population with the modern mobile communications standard, 5G. The new 5G frequency provides excellent coverage of the entire town of Krauschwitz with the O2 mobile network.
