Notifications Summaries from Apple Intelligence have been reactivated

In the latest iOS 26 Beta 4 developer update, Apple has re-enabled its AI-powered news summaries feature, known as Apple Intelligence Notification Summaries. This feature, initially launched in iOS 18 but temporarily removed due to concerns over misleading headlines and factual errors, is now back with several improvements and precautions.

The summaries group multiple notifications from News and Entertainment apps into concise, one-sentence overviews designed to help users quickly grasp key news content. To make it easier for users to manage their notifications, they now have the option to enable or disable summaries per category, including News and Entertainment apps.

Summaries generated by Apple Intelligence are now clearly marked with a "Summarized by Apple Intelligence" notice and are italicized to distinguish them from original headlines. A prominent warning in red text advises users that "Summarization may change the meaning of original headlines. Verify information." This warning appears when users choose to enable summaries for News & Entertainment apps.

Apple has also implemented a feedback mechanism, allowing users to report concerns or issues directly to the tech giant about any problematic summaries. This feature is intended to facilitate feedback during the ongoing beta testing process.

In addition, Apple claims to have improved the summarization algorithms to reduce confusion and factual errors that were present in the initial implementation. The purpose of these summaries is to make it easier for users to consume news notifications by providing short, AI-curated overviews rather than multiple alerts or full articles.

Based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, Michael Kozlowski, an expert in the fields of audiobooks, e-books, and e-readers, has been writing about these topics for the past eighteen years. If you have any questions or comments, you can reach him at michael@our website.

Apple's cautious and transparent approach reflects its effort to balance convenience with reliability after earlier criticisms of the feature. The tech giant plans to further test and refine Apple Intelligence summaries for news articles throughout the remainder of the iOS 26 beta testing process.
