Nintendo's business is experiencing rapid growth, thanks to Switch 2.

In early June, Nintendo launched the Switch 2, their latest gaming console, to record-breaking demand and sales. The new console, which offers improved image quality and more processing power for a smoother gaming experience, has sold over 6 million units globally in just under two months [1][2].

The strong sales performance can be attributed to several key factors. Firstly, the Switch 2 sold more than 3.5 million units within the first four days, signaling strong consumer enthusiasm [2]. This rapid sell-through rate was bolstered by the launch title, Mario Kart World, which sold 5.63 million copies [1][2].

Nintendo's existing large user base from the original Switch, with over 100 million active annual players, likely facilitated a smoother transition and boosted initial sales [1]. The global sales distribution was also broad, with strong sales in Japan, the Americas, Europe, and other regions [2].

Despite the high demand, Nintendo has faced supply challenges in many countries, indicating strong consumer appetite and willingness to purchase despite limited availability [1][2]. This has contributed to a surge in Nintendo's quarterly revenue, which increased by 132% year-on-year to 572.36 billion yen (around 3.34 billion euros) [1][2].

Nintendo's profit also grew by 18.6% year-on-year to 96 billion yen (560 million euros) [1][2]. Notably, the new racing game from the "Mario Kart" series is exclusive to the Switch 2.

However, the Switch 2's release coincides with a shift in the industry towards game streaming services. Despite this, the console's portability and ability to be used connected to a television have contributed to its success.

The Switch 2 is significantly more expensive than its predecessor, starting at around 470 euros [2]. The original Nintendo Switch is still available for around 290 euros.

Nintendo maintains that full-fledged games featuring popular characters like Super Mario can only run on its own consoles. This exclusivity may have contributed to the high demand for the Switch 2, as fans eagerly await new games in their favourite series.

Overall, the Switch 2's success can be attributed to a combination of factors, including a strong existing Switch player community, an appealing launch lineup with successful bundled titles, global market penetration, rapid sell-through rates, and Nintendo's production efforts amid high demand.

The high demand for the Switch 2, coupled with its impressive sales performance, is evidence of consumers' interest in advanced gadgets and cutting-edge technology. The console's exclusive games, particularly the new Mario Kart title, have drawn fans and added to its appeal, further bolstered by its portability and compatibility with TV screens.
