NextSource Shifts Battery Anode Project to Middle East for Faster Permitting, Trade Advantages

NextSource Materials Inc. (TSX:NEXT, OTCQB:NSRCF) is shifting its Battery Anode Facility (BAF) project to the Middle East, citing streamlined permitting, strong infrastructure, and trade advantages. The move aligns with growing demand for localized battery material supply chains and global efforts to diversify away from China-dominated production.

The company, previously focused on Mauritius, has terminated its lease and withdrawn its Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) application due to prolonged and uncertain regulatory processes. CEO Hanré Rossouw stated that the strategic pivot allows NextSource to pursue larger-scale opportunities and meet global demand more efficiently.

NextSource is targeting key sites in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates for its larger-scale development opportunities. The company aims to avoid further costs and redeploy its transportable BAF equipment to these more favorable jurisdictions. NextSource is also in active negotiations with original equipment manufacturers to secure an offtake agreement for its high-value graphite anode product.

The shift to the Middle East positions NextSource closer to major electric vehicle (EV) manufacturers, supporting its ambition to build a scalable, secure, and sustainable supply chain. Positive feedback from product qualification trials further supports this strategic move, as NextSource continues to navigate the complex landscape of battery material production.
