New Project by Deus Ex Prominent Figure Delivers Baldur's Gate 3-Esque Promise of Friendship Betrayal, Centered Around a Piece of Parmesan Cheese

Ain't gonna lie, the initial peek at Thick as Thieves during Summer Game Fest left me hooked - but damn, that sweet cheese stole the show. This bad boy, created by Deus Ex mastermind Warren Spector, seems to be dishing up a dash of enchanting, magical intrigue in its early 20th-century setting, yet all I could think about was cheddar.
Lead producer Samantha Stetler from OtherSide Entertainment filled me in on the craze within the dev team and fellow playtesters: they can't get enough of a Baldur's Gate 3-style cheese hoofer you can pinch in Thick as Thieves. You assume control of one of three thieves orchestrating Ocean's 11-style heists, and there's jewels, prizes, and stacks of loot to loot - but that delicious cheese?! It had me craving a bite, too.
Showcasing her character's special move, each thief boasting a distinct ability like zip-lining agility, Stetler sneaked through an old manor, swapping identities with cubic-headed security guards, and even summoning a cute pickpocket fairy to snatch some keys. Yet all the while, a cheese wrestling match was unfolding in the game's corner: one player lifted the tasty treat, only for the other to snatch it back, then the roles reversed, and so on.
Whatta gameplay, right? It's like a tamer, family-friendly Dreamworks take on the 1998 stealth game Thief: The Dark Project, if you ask me. But lemme tell you, I wasn't too hot on it until cheese came into play.
See, this was some fine cheese – the kind that lured men to conquer mountaintops. Or, in this case, spurred them on to betray their mates, I guess.
