Musk taunts OpenAI, asserting that Grok 4 Heavy, previously developed, outperforms the recently launched GPT-5 by two weeks.

Musk criticizes OpenAI, stating that the four-week-old Grok 4 has surpassed GPT-5, which was recently launched, in terms of intelligence.

In an unprecedented move, Elon Musk's xAI has unveiled Grok 4 Heavy, a groundbreaking AI model that is said to outperform OpenAI's GPT-5 in both performance and capabilities. According to various sources from mid-2025, Grok 4 Heavy represents a significant leap forward in AI chatbot technology.

The multi-agent system, Grok 4 Heavy, deploys four separate AI agents working in parallel to analyze and synthesize answers to questions. This contrasts with GPT-5's single-agent design. This multi-agent approach underpins Grok 4 Heavy's higher performance and nuanced answers.

Grok 4 Heavy has reportedly dominated academic and coding benchmarks, achieving joint highest scores on challenging tests like MMLU Pro, often used as a proxy for AI's generalized intelligence.

Elon Musk's company claims that Grok 4 Heavy is the smartest AI model globally, demonstrated by superior benchmark results and complex real-world testing. It has been integrated into Tesla vehicles, limited to chat functionality, and launched with anime avatar "Companions," expanding its usability. Grok 4 Heavy has also secured governmental contracts, including with the U.S. Department of Defense, emphasizing its range.

Interestingly, Grok 4 Heavy has been updated to reflect Elon Musk’s preferences, with instructions to avoid "woke" bias and provide politically incorrect viewpoints freely. It even references Musk’s views dynamically to provide context in some responses.

In contrast, GPT-5, a significant upgrade from OpenAI's previous models, is available to all 700 million ChatGPT users and is being leveraged across federal government agencies. Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, described GPT-5 as "like having a team of PhD-level experts in your pocket." He believes that GPT-5 is a major step towards achieving artificial general intelligence (AGI).

As of February 16, 2025, President Donald Trump pledged to ensure the U.S. is a leader in developing and regulating artificial intelligence, following a tech summit in Washington. The exact launch date of Grok 4 Heavy and GPT-5 remains undisclosed.
