MSI Afterburner 4.6.6 Released After Long Hiatus, Drops Windows XP Support
MSI Afterburner, the popular graphics card overclocking and monitoring tool, has released a new stable version, 4.6.6, after a long hiatus. The update brings changes in supported hardware and operating systems.
The latest version, MSI Afterburner 4.6.6, drops support for Windows XP due to a switch to the Microsoft Visual C++ 2022 compiler. This marks the end of official support for the aging operating system in the software.
On the hardware front, the new version does not officially support the Radeon 9070XT series due to reported functionality issues. However, it maintains unofficial compatibility for the newer Radeon RX 9000 models, keeping up with the latest AMD graphics cards. Notably, the software now officially supports GeForce RTX 5000 series graphics cards, providing users with more overclocking and monitoring options.
The release of MSI Afterburner 4.6.6 after almost two and a half years signals a commitment to keeping the software up-to-date with current hardware and operating systems. While it marks the end of official support for Windows XP and certain AMD graphics cards, it also brings official support for newer Nvidia models and maintains unofficial compatibility for newer AMD cards.
