New Limited-Edition eMTB from Gardner87 Stirs Debate
The Gardner87 G87 X4 R Gravity Pro eMTB has made a splash in the bike industry with its high-end performance components and exclusive features. Priced at €23,400, this limited edition eMTB is a collectible item, with only 87 units produced and each numbered and signed by Wayne Gardner, the former Australian motorcycle and touring car racer who now designs e-bikes under the brand Gardner87.
The bike boasts a unique design, filling the gap between bicycles and motorcycles. It features a floating seat tube, a chunky down tube, a high bottom bracket, and a steep front end. The X4 R Gravity Pro also sports an MX wheel setup, a Yamaha PW-X4 motor, and an 840Wh battery, offering strong electric assist and good range.
High-quality drivetrain components from SRAM Eagle X0 ensure reliable and precise shifting, while premium Schwalbe tyres (Johnny Watts front, Magic Mary rear) optimized for grip and control on varied terrain provide excellent handling. The bike's front and rear suspension travel is 160mm and 140mm respectively, designed for aggressive trail and gravity riding.
However, the justification for its high price is mainly tied to its limited edition status, provenance, and exclusivity rather than revolutionary technical innovation. Some critics find the design bizarre, while others see it as a pioneering design in eMTB trends. The bike's performance alone might not justify the cost, but it could become a collectible item for enthusiasts.
