Neural DSP, a leading developer of virtual guitar plugins, has announced its latest offering - the Archetype X signature guitar plugin suite, signed by Misha Mansoor. This suite is designed to deliver an in-the-box solution for modern metal guitarists, featuring a diverse range of tools and effects tailored to Mansoor's signature sound.
The Archetype X plugin suite includes three core guitar amps, each served by a separate 9-band graphic equalizer. The Clean amp, based on a modern American classic, provides headroom for big sounds. The Lead amp, inspired by custom-modded British classics, is designed for expressive solos and singing lead lines, offering saturation, heat, heaps of sustain, and a two-way Voice switch. The Rhythm amp is a high-gain amp for tight, percussive riffing, capable of articulating all the nuance in riffs even when tuning the electric guitar down and increasing gain.
To complement the amps, the suite offers a generous array of effects. The Horizon Devices Compressor pedal and Precision Drive serve as pre-fx options, while the Special FX section includes the virtual treadle-equipped Laser stompbox with 19 presets, ring mod, pitch shifter, all with sweepable parameters, plus an envelope mode for automatic dynamic effects.
One standout feature is the Glitch, a granular processing effect that chops up the guitar's signal and rearranges it. This effect offers four modes: Pitch Delay, Sequence, Interfere, and Texturizer, providing a wealth of creative possibilities.
The suite also boasts a variety of CabSims with seven virtual microphones for mic-ing them up, and a virtual room mic for adding depth before touching the reverb. The Lead module can even be used as an IR loader. The plugin suite can be used in-the-box, on the floor, or downloaded for a Quad Cortex (with a future CorOS update).
The Archetype X plugin suite is designed for nailing Misha Mansoor's electric guitar sounds, but it also offers a versatile toolkit for modern metal guitarists. It includes a Dual Octaver, Tape Echo emulator, and the single-knob Chaos distortion pedal, among other effects.
John Petrucci, Gojira, and Cory Wong are among the musicians offering their endorsement for this innovative plugin suite, which is described as 'The ultimate toolkit for modern metal guitar.'
