BYD Fang Cheng Bao Unveils the Tai 7 Hybrid SUV

In a significant move for the automotive industry, BYD Fang Cheng Bao has announced the launch of its new Tai series product line, with the Tai 7 hybrid SUV taking centre stage. The Tai 7 is a 7-seater plug-in hybrid crossover that promises to deliver a balanced performance, extended electric and hybrid driving ranges, family-oriented spaciousness, and modern smart tech integration.

The Tai 7 is powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged petrol engine, producing 115 kW (154 hp), combined with two electric motors. The front motor generates 160 kW (215 hp), while the rear motor produces a robust 200 kW (268 hp), ensuring strong combined power output. The SUV uses BYD’s latest DMS plug-in hybrid system and offers two battery options: a 26.6 kWh LFP battery for an electric range of approximately 100–105 km, and a top-trim 35.6 kWh LFP battery offering up to 130 km electric range. Fuel consumption ranges from 6.3 to 6.4 liters per 100 km, depending on the variant.

The Tai 7 measures 4,999 mm in length, 1,995 mm in width, and 1,865 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,920 mm. This sizeable SUV provides a spacious interior with five seats and two color schemes: black & white or black & orange. The high bonnet line, flat roof, wide wheel arches, and swing-out tailgate with storage box contribute to its distinctive design. The Tai 7 supports both all-wheel-drive (with dual motors) and two-wheel-drive versions (with a single motor of 200 kW). With its combined fuel and electric range exceeding 1,300 kilometers on a full tank and charge, the Tai 7 offers impressive driving capabilities.

Technologically, the Tai 7 is equipped with BYD’s God’s Eye smart driving system and comes in versions with and without LiDAR for advanced driver-assistance. The SUV also introduces an in-house developed tablet integrated into the interior for enhanced multi-screen collaboration and smart controls.

The Tai 7 marks Fang Cheng Bao's first hybrid SUV with a unibody design and boasts the largest interior space among the brand's existing products. It is the second model in the Tai series, following the success of the Tai 3 compact family SUV. The Tai 7 will be officially launched in the fourth quarter of this year.

BYD Fang Cheng Bao, a sub-brand of the Chinese automaker BYD, officially launched in August 2023. In the first half of this year, the brand sold 60,746 vehicles, marking a year-on-year increase of 232.25 percent. In June alone, Fang Cheng Bao sold 18,903 vehicles, representing a year-on-year increase of 605.34 percent and a month-on-month increase of 50.12 percent. The Tai 7 is set to further bolster these impressive sales figures.
