Major Drug Ring Dismantled: 10 Tons of Cocaine Seized, 5 Arrested
Authorities have dismantled a major international drug trafficking ring, seizing ten tons of cocaine and arresting five individuals. The operation, dubbed 'Gulupa', has been ongoing since 2022.
The Spanish police and Colombian authorities conducted seven simultaneous raids, leading to the arrest of three suspects in Spain and two in Colombia. The gang, with connections to the Colombian Clan del Golfo, is believed to have smuggled approximately 120 tons of cocaine into the European Union annually.
Investigators gained access to the gang's internal communications, using the Sky ECC smartphone app, which led them to the masterminds operating from Colombia, Spain, and Dubai. The gang laundered around $700 million (€603 million) through offshore companies and cryptocurrency transactions.
The 'Gulupa' operation has significantly disrupted the international drug trafficking ring. Despite the arrests and seizures, the identities of the masterminds remain unknown. Authorities continue to investigate the complex network and its connections to other criminal organizations.
