Lightyear Frontier's mech farming sim undergoes significant upgrade, featuring expanded map, colossal tornadoes, and cosmic cargo cannon: Evidently, we've been falling short of the promised fantasia.

Steam Early Access title Lightyear Frontier, which had garnered a positive reception initially for its unique blend of mech piloting and farming simulation, appears to have encountered player discontent. With its upcoming Shifting Gears update, developer Frame Break acknowledges this issue, stating that the game has not lived up to the promises made to players.

The primary source of player complaints pertained to the limited scale of the map, which journalists and players alike argued was too small, constraining the potential for creative farming designs. In response, the Shifting Gears update will introduce an expansive new map to accommodate larger-scale farming projects and farms that sprawl over broader territories.

Additionally, the update aims to enhance the progression system, offering greater incentives for building larger farms. Players will be rewarded for their contributions by shipping considerable crop quantities to other planets, unlocking fresh structures and mech upgrades. The introduction of the enticing named "delivery cannon" will expedite this process by blasting crop consignments to nearby colonies.

Frame Break has not only focused on increasing the size of the game world but has also made efforts to improve its depth. By incorporating environmental hazards, such as formidable tornadoes that can damage crops and farm equipment, as well as introducing new mod chips for mech upgrades and automated drones for easier crop irrigation, the developers aim to create a more engaging and challenging gaming experience.

The Shifting Gears update is slated to release on June 4, promising a dramatic overhaul that players have been eagerly anticipating. However, it remains to be seen whether these changes will alleviate the criticisms raised about the game's sluggish start-up phase.
