Leica is honoring the legacy of its groundbreaking original 35mm camera, the Leica 1, originally introduced in 1925. Despite being a pioneer in photography for 75 years, the Leica 1 format still reigns supreme as the preferred format among analogue lovers.
Hold on tight, because it's going to be an equipment extravaganza, particularly for the Leica enthusiasts craving every version of their beloved cameras. Leica's anniversary festivities kick off with an exclusive, limited-edition boxed set of the M11-D. This luxurious assortment comprises a case, two lenses, brass top and base plates, and a cognac-toned leather case, not to be missed! The special edition Leica 1's compact lens, the Leitz Anastigmat 50 mm f/3.5, has been updated for modern times while preserving its historical flair. But you'll need to wait until spring 2026 to get your hands on it.
In the interim, the Leica M11 '100 Years of Leica - Wetzlar, Germany' edition is exclusively available in Germany as part of a global series of M11 editions adorned with city names. The Wetzlar edition retails for €9,500. Hot on its heels are limited editions for cities such as Dubai, Milan, New York, Shanghai, and Tokyo.
Three other anniversary editions are being launched now: a Leica D-Lux 8, refashioned with a contemporary color scheme, black leatherette texture, and an engraved top plate, referencing the classic Leica 1. The D-Lux 8 100 Years of Leica edition sells for £1,600 online and through dealers.
Leica's hybrid instant camera, the Sofort 2, receives centenary finishes and is available for £425. Additionally, there's a limited edition reissue of 100 pairs of Leica Trinovid 10x40 binoculars, complete with a special bag and strap, priced at £2,350.
Leica will also publish a visual monograph, 100 Leica Stories, as an ode to the enduring influence of the Leica 1 on both photographic and social history. The 320-page hardcover monograph is priced at £50 and is available in German and English. Exhibitions commemorating the anniversary will be held at the Ernst Leitz Museum and Leica Gallery in Wetzlar, including a retrospective of the work of Joel Meyerowitz.
