🚀🌠 Prague's Bold Leap: A LED Planetarium Revolution

Attention space enthusiasts and hobby astronomers, Prague's Planetarium is now a must-visit! Stepping away from tradition, this renowned planetarium has been hung with around 45 million LED lights, transforming the 22-meter-wide dome into a mesmerizing spectacle. Instead of relying on projectors, it illuminates itself, offering an ever-evolving display of the cosmos.

"The sheer amazement on everyone's face is palpable," states Jakub Rozehnal, director of the two observatories and the Planetarium in Prague, who led the two-year renovation project. The newly renovated facility opened its doors to visitors this weekend, marking a significant milestone. As stated by a spokesperson, it is one of the first fully digital LED planetariums in the world.

The American-manufactured LED Dome lighting system is renowned for its long lifespan, low maintenance costs, and exceptional brightness. In winter, the generated heat warms the entire building. The total cost of the renovation amounted to around 12 million euros.

Crafted in the 1950s, the circular Planetarium building resides in Stromovka Park. The renovated auditorium now comfortably seats 290 visitors. With the approval of the heritage protection authorities, the original projection equipment from Carl Zeiss Jena, an East German optics manufacturer, has been preserved in a side room. Reports show that more than one million German overnight guests visited the Czech capital last year.

Prague Planetarium, accessible in English, supports an unforgettable, engaging exploration of the universe, boasting the following unique features:

  1. Ghostly Largeness: The Prague Planetarium flaunts the world's largest LED dome at an impressive 22 meters in diameter, offering an immersive experience through an expansive, high-resolution canvas.
  2. 45-Million-Pixel Imagery: The dome delivers a striking resolution of 45 million pixels, ensuring visuals are crystal clear and incredibly detailed.
  3. Fully Digital Wonders: Unlike traditional planetariums, the Prague Planetarium employs state-of-the-art digital LED technology, allowing for dynamic and interactive content.
  4. European Pioneer: The Prague Planetarium is the first LED-based planetarium in Europe, signifying a technological breakthrough for the continent's planetarium landscape.
  5. Immersive Space Expedition: The interplay between the gigantic LED dome and the high-resolution display creates a captivating environment, simulating an actual space exploration, surpassing traditional planetarium setups in interactivity and engagement.
