Launch of OS 4.0, based on Android 16, will occur no later than September's conclusion

In an exciting turn of events for tech enthusiasts, British tech startup Nothing has announced the anticipated launch of its latest offerings: the Nothing Phone (3) and the Nothing Headphone (1), both set to debut on July 15, 2025. The Phone (3) will retail for $799, while the Headphone (1) will be available for $299.

The highlight of the announcement, however, is the expected release of Nothing OS 4.0, the company's Android 16 update. According to Nothing, the OS update will launch between September and November 2025, with a likely start by the end of September. The update will first be available on the Nothing Phone (3), the company's latest flagship device, followed potentially by older models.

Nothing OS 4.0 is teased to bring AI-powered features such as smarter UI suggestions and contextual actions, along with improved customization options and an upgraded Glyph Matrix API for enhanced interactive rear LEDs on the Phone (3). The update also promises 5 years of OS upgrades and 7 years of security patches for the Phone (3), emphasising Nothing's commitment to long-term support.

Before the stable release, there will be an open beta phase, allowing early adopters to test new features and provide feedback. The exact timeline for the rollout of Nothing OS 4.0 to prior Nothing Phone releases is uncertain, but it is expected that they may follow closely behind the launch of Nothing OS 4.0.

Interestingly, Google released Android 16 earlier than usual this year, which has affected the usual schedule of Android updates. This quicker adoption of Android 16 by Nothing reflects in the faster deployment of the Nothing OS 4.0 update compared to previous updates by the company.

The design of the Nothing Headphone (1) is wild and offers up to 80-hour battery life. The Phone (3) is described as the start of a new chapter, but it's not considered a 'true flagship'. The tease is presumably mainly for the launch of the Phone (3), although no specific details about what Nothing OS 4.0 will offer have been revealed yet.

The launch of the Nothing Phone (3) and Nothing Headphone (1) is set for July 15, 2025. The expected release date for Nothing OS 4.0 is between September and November 2025, with the rollout starting likely by the end of September 2025. The update will first be available on the Nothing Phone (3), followed potentially by older models.

After the launch of the Nothing Phone (3) and Nothing Headphone (1) on July 15, 2025, tech enthusiasts can look forward to the anticipated release of Nothing OS 4.0 between September and November 2025. This update, expected to be available by the end of September, will first be accessible on the Nothing Phone (3).
