Latest Updates on Rivian's Lineup: Insights into R1, R2, R3, and Further Models
Rivian Unveils Customised R1S Quad Myrtle Beach Edition and Announces Future Models
Rivian, the electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, has made waves in the automotive industry with its latest announcement. At a recent event, the company unveiled the R1S Quad Myrtle Beach Edition, a one-of-a-kind vehicle showcasing Rivian's customisation capabilities.
The R1S, already ranked #1 in Electric Luxury 3-Row SUVs on Rivian's website, has now incorporated the quad-motor system, where each wheel is controlled by a dedicated motor, returning to the top of the R1T range. This upgrade promises improved performance, making the R1S a formidable player in the EV market.
Rivian's CEO, RJ Scaringe, revealed that the brand's lineup could eventually comprise five or six different vehicles. In addition to the R1S and R1T, Scaringe speculated about the possibility of an R6 joining the lineup, although no further details were provided.
The Rivian R3, a high-riding hatchback with rad retro styling and modern appeal, is currently in development. Meanwhile, the Rivian R2, a smaller and more affordable EV SUV, is moving toward production. Camouflaged R2 prototypes have been spotted near Rivian's Irvine, California, headquarters.
Rivian is also working on the R2 and R3 models, which will be produced from 2028 in their new factory in Georgia. The R2 volume model is scheduled for market launch in the first half of 2026. Volkswagen models based on the jointly developed Rivian architecture are expected to follow in 2027.
A dedicated assembly line for the R2 is being set up at Rivian's plant in Normal, Illinois. The 2026 R1S and R1T models now feature a NACS charging port, allowing them to charge at Tesla Supercharger stations without an adapter.
The R1S Myrtle Beach Edition features exclusive hand-finished details, setting it apart from other models. Regular software updates will be added to the R1S via over-the-air updates, ensuring the vehicle remains at the forefront of technology.
Google Maps integration is one example of the additional software functionality added to the R1S. Scaringe also confirmed that an R4 and R5 are part of the future product plan, but details about these vehicles remain unclear.
As Rivian continues to develop models that appeal to new market segments, the company is positioning itself as a significant player in the EV industry. With a focus on innovation, performance, and customisation, Rivian is set to redefine the future of electric vehicles.
