Latest Announcement: Launch of Silhouette 2023

Silhouette 2023, the latest version of The Foundry's renowned visual effects compositing software, is now available. This release is designed to streamline the work of digital paint artists, roto artists, and compositors, making invisible and visible effects work more efficient than ever before.

Powerful New Features

Silhouette 2023 introduces significant improvements in stabilization, grain handling, chroma keying, programmable expressions, and new compositing/VFX nodes.

Stability Node

The Stability Node, a key addition to the software, improves frame-to-frame stabilization for motion tracking and roto work. This feature enables more precise adjustments in moving shots, ensuring a smoother and more accurate workflow.

Grain Management Nodes

The Grain Management Nodes have been introduced to better control and preserve film grain during compositing and colour correction. With the DeNoiser ML node, Regrain node, and Sapphire UltraGrain node now available, projects can achieve cinematic realism with ease.

Primatte Node

The Primatte Node, integrating Academy Award-nominated technology, offers quick and efficient blue/green screen chromakeying. With fine edge detail and spill suppression, it's the perfect tool for advanced green screen and blue screen keying.

Expressions

Expanded expressions support in Silhouette 2023 allows for procedural and automated control over keyframes, masks, and effects. This enhancement boosts workflow customization and interactivity, making complex animations and parameter linking simpler than ever.

Compositing & VFX Nodes

New compositing nodes have been added for advanced merging, colour correction, blur, warp, and other VFX used in film and TV production. These updates, combined with Sapphire 2023.5, Mocha Pro 2023, Particle Illusion 2023, and select Continuum 2023 nodes, significantly improve node-based compositing efficiency and flexibility.

Purchase Options and Availability

Silhouette 2023 is available as a standalone application and as an Adobe/OFX plugin for Adobe After Effects & Premiere Pro, Autodesk Flame, Blackmagic Resolve & Fusion, and Foundry Nuke. The new release includes purchase options such as annual/monthly subscriptions, upgrade & support plans, and a perpetual license.

Existing customers with an active subscription or upgrade & support plan can upgrade to Silhouette 2023 for free. A spring sale is currently offering a 25% discount on a single purchase of Silhouette 2023, valid until April 28th at midnight PDT.

Demonstrations and Tutorials

Elizabeth Postol and Ben Brownlee have provided demonstrations and tutorials to help users make the most of the new features in Silhouette 2023. Elizabeth Postol shows how to use the Stability Node to expedite tasks like removals and clean plates, while Ben Brownlee guides users through the new features and explains why they are beneficial for current projects.

For the most authoritative and detailed update, checking The Foundry’s official release notes or technical blog on their website or verified industry sources is recommended. The search did not yield an official or comprehensive list of the new features, so direct reference to The Foundry would provide the most accurate and full feature set.

Artificial intelligence is integrated into the Stability Node, offering advanced motion tracking and roto work by improving frame-to-frame stabilization using machine learning techniques.

The new Grain Management Nodes incorporate artificial intelligence, such as the DeNoiser ML node, to denoise footage automatically and preserve film grain during compositing and color correction.
