Worten Announces Construction of Large-Scale Logistics Platform, Worten Orders Park
Worten, a leading retailer in Portugal, has announced the commencement of construction for Worten Orders Park, a state-of-the-art logistics platform in Castanheira do Ribatejo. Spanning 115,000 m², the facility is set to revolutionize Worten's logistics operations and serve as the company's central hub.
Key Features
The new logistics powerhouse will be equipped with cutting-edge technology, including a high-capacity automated 'sorter' capable of processing up to 10,000 orders per hour. This advanced technology will enable faster, more efficient order sorting and separation.
Worten Orders Park is designed to handle increasing sales demands and ensure deliveries within two hours in some cases. It will facilitate late ordering with next-day delivery to homes, offices, or other locations, improving convenience and service responsiveness.
Sustainability efforts will also be a cornerstone of Worten Orders Park. Renewable solar energy installations, water reuse systems, and infrastructure improvements to enhance thermal comfort will all contribute to reducing the environmental impact of the facility.
Impact on Logistics Operations
By consolidating logistics activities, Worten Orders Park will reduce inefficiencies caused by decentralized warehousing, improving distribution to retail stores across Portugal and Spain (including the Canary Islands) and supporting international expansion.
The project promises new employment opportunities through its scale and technological advancements, with the new center set to employ 350 people regularly, and a higher number during peak demand.
Heavy investment in cutting-edge logistics technology positions Worten as a leader in innovation within the Portuguese logistics sector. The new facility will occupy 115,000 square metres, with the infrastructure's inauguration scheduled for 2028.
Pedro Chainho, Head of Supply Chain at Worten, notes that the new logistics system will offer efficiency gains and responsiveness. He also mentioned that the new system will create a less monotonous work environment, making it more attractive to employees.
Worten Orders Park represents a strategic, future-oriented investment designed to strengthen Worten's logistics capacity, improve delivery speed and efficiency, foster technological innovation, contribute to sustainability, and support job growth in logistics.
Merlin Properties is a partner in the construction and will be responsible for it. The investments in Worten Orders Park will be a differentiating factor for the company. Different types of jobs related to technology are also planned for the new platform.
Sustainability measures, such as renewable energy and water reuse systems, will be part of Worten Orders Park. The new Worten Orders Park will be larger than the current facility, allowing for the transfer of all personnel and equipment.
