Khan, the head of JSA Corporation, has left his position and joined CAM after spending a year at JSA.
Iqbal Khan, a prominent transactional lawyer known for his work on complex and high-profile mergers and acquisitions (M&A) across various sectors, has joined Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas (CAM) as a partner in its corporate practice.
Khan's expertise covers private equity investments, private and public M&A (both domestic and cross-border), joint ventures, and foreign investment laws. His reputation is built on advising on multibillion-dollar mergers and acquisitions, a skillset that has earned him recognition in India's competitive legal market.
**At J. Sagar Associates (JSA):**
Khan served as the national corporate lead and equity partner at JSA for less than a year before his latest move. During his tenure, he led significant M&A transactions, including acting as the lead partner for the acquisition by Serene Productions LLP (led by Adar Poonawalla) to acquire a 50% stake in Dharma Productions and Dharmatic Entertainment. He also advised on other complex acquisitions like the two-tranche purchase by Downhole Products Limited of a 100% stake in Sledgehammer Oil Tools Private Limited.
**At Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co (SAM):**
Before joining JSA, Khan was an equity partner at SAM, where he advised a broad spectrum of clients on complex mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures. While specific deals at SAM are not listed, he co-authored articles on M&A complexities for SAM, reflecting his deep engagement with intricate transactional matters. His advisory role at SAM involved working with major global financial sponsors and strategic investors across sectors, aligning with the firm's stature as one of India’s leading full-service law firms.
Khan's key advisory roles at JSA and SAM highlight his leadership in critical and high-value M&A deals, notably in strategic equity acquisitions such as the Dharma Productions stake deal at JSA, and his broader advisory practice at SAM focusing on complex cross-border and domestic M&A transactions.
With this appointment, CAM continues its strategic expansion with high-profile additions, including Nishith Mehta, Rachika Sahay, Mihir Rale, and Oishika Dasgupta. Cyril Shroff, managing partner of CAM, expressed delight at welcoming Khan and his team to the firm. Khan will be based in CAM's Mumbai office, and he brings his team along with him to CAM.
This move marks another significant lateral shift in India's competitive legal market, following Khan's transition from JSA and his earlier move from SAM to JSA in June 2024. The team led by Khan also moved from SAM to JSA in the same year.
