Kenyan Startup BasiGo Secures $3M for Electric Bus Expansion in Africa
BasiGo, a Kenyan startup, has made waves in the electric bus sector. It has secured a $3 million investment from CFAO Group for production expansion in Rwanda and Kenya. The company offers electric bus solutions with maintenance and charging services, and has already received over 600 orders from operators in Kigali and Nairobi.
BasiGo's electric buses are available through a pay-as-you-go financing plan, making them accessible to operators. The company's success has drawn investments from Mobility54 and CFAO Kenya, CFAO's corporate venture capital divisions. Akira Wada, managing director of CFAO Kenya, anticipates a bright future for electric vehicles in Africa. Jit Bhattacharya, CEO of BasiGo, sees electric mobility as a key to transforming African economies.
BasiGo aims to manufacture 1,000 electric buses locally within the next three years. The company has already developed its first domestically-manufactured electric bus. With CFAO's strong presence in over 40 African countries, BasiGo is poised for significant growth.
