Interview with Photographer: Nemanja Sekulic
In the bustling city of Belgrade, Serbia, resides a creative powerhouse named Nemanja Sekulic. With a career spanning two decades, Sekulic has made a name for himself as a professional photographer and digital artist.
His journey into the world of photography began 20 years ago, when he received Adobe Photoshop as a gift. Since then, he has honed his skills in various photographic genres, specialising in photo manipulation and compositing.
When faced with creative burnout, Sekulic has a unique strategy. He steps away from the project, engages in activities unrelated to it, and returns refreshed after a day or two.
Preparing for a big project, Sekulic delves deep into research on the topic, sketches his ideas, takes photographs, and uses Photoshop and Optics for the final composition. He frequently employs lens flares presets, sunray filters like S_Rays and S_EdgeRays, and other tools in Optics for film simulations and color grading.
One of Sekulic's favourite images is his Batman composition, created using a 3D human model he crafted in ZBrush. Another standout piece is "Big Library," a composite image inspired by Cerebro from the X-Men comic books and his late father's extensive library.
If he could speak with any artist, living or dead, Sekulic would choose M.C. Escher, admiring the mind-bending works of art that the Dutch graphic artist is known for.
As he works on his current project, a course teaching people how to mold hair for commercial projects, inspired by his "Birdhouse Hairstyle" composite image, Sekulic finds inspiration in reading books, watching movies, listening to music, and everyday situations. When the going gets tough, he fuels himself with protein chocolate.
Reflecting on his life path, Sekulic feels he is exactly where he always wanted to be. He offers little advice to his younger self, other than perhaps to make decisions earlier and not to be afraid of doing so.
