ViewQwest Users Encounter Internet Service Disruptions in Singapore

SINGAPORE - Reports of internet connection issues with ViewQwest, a local internet service provider, surged on an outage tracking website on May 31, reaching over 1,400 users in the afternoon. Downdetector recorded a spike of 1,491 reports around 4.30pm, following an earlier peak of 537 at 11.15am. The counts started to dwindle to approximately 30 or less from around 6pm.

ViewQwest earlier announced via its Facebook page that its services were fully restored by 1.30pm following an initial disruption. The service provider attributed the morning interruption to a power outage at one of its data centers, during which the backup system failed to function as expected. The company's hotline encountered technical difficulties during the disruption as well.

However, the service provider clarified in a 6.37pm update on Facebook that the issues were an isolated incident at the data center level and were unrelated to any previous service problems. More than 330 users have commented on the post, reporting connection problems in areas such as Eunos, Mountbatten, Bukit Batok, and Sengkang.

Our attempts to obtain further information from ViewQwest were unsuccessful at the time of publishing.

Reports suggest that the outage affecting multiple Internet Service Providers in Singapore, including Singtel and StarHub, can be linked to a power outage at Equinix's SG1 data center during scheduled maintenance. Equipment failure led to a power outage in two data halls at the facility, causing the disruption[1][2]. ViewQwest stated that the incident was out of their direct control.

  1. The internet service disruptions experienced by ViewQwest users in Singapore might be linked to a larger issue affecting multiple Internet Service Providers, as a power outage at Equinix's SG1 data center was reported during scheduled maintenance.
  2. The technical difficulties ViewQwest users faced during the internet service disruption could potentially be traced back to the power outage at Equinix's SG1 data center, given that the incident seemed to affect various ISPs and was caused by equipment failure.
