Individuals apprehended for secretly recording and disseminating explicit videos without the involved parties' approval.
In a recent cyberpatrol operation, agents from the @ Team and Cybercrime unit successfully apprehended two Spanish nationals, aged 23, for disseminating sexual content images of women via Telegram groups. The investigation, which remains open, uncovered several closed groups on platforms like WhatsApp and Telegram, where such content, mainly of very young women, was sent.
The arrested individuals were accused of several crimes, primarily for violating the right to privacy and intruding into computer systems. They were found to have stored photos and videos of strangers, roommates, and even their girlfriends, often made without the victims' consent in places like bathrooms using hidden security cameras.
Those who did not share the content were expelled from the dissemination groups. The arrested individuals sold these images to users who demanded more content. Moreover, they were training others to replicate their practices.
The investigation into these Telegram groups typically begins due to either victim complaints, media investigations, or undercover journalism reports that bring the illegal activity to public and law enforcement attention, which then escalates to formal inquiries and arrests.
Examples of messages exchanged in these groups include: "I'll send you several of the same", "Are there any shower videos?", "in the video there was no moment where her legs were a bit more open", and "later in bathrooms and so with the front, that in case they look towards the mobile they see that the screen is off and they don't even question that it might be recording".
These communities could have between 500 and 1000 members. 27 victims have filed complaints, and it is estimated that there could be another twenty people related to the investigation. The accused allegedly accessed mobile phones and computers to obtain compromising material from the victims.
The operation serves as a stark reminder of the need for vigilance and action against such digital threats. As technology continues to evolve, so too must our efforts to protect the privacy and safety of individuals in the online space.
- The arrest of the two Spanish Nationals implies a growing concern in the realm of cybersecurity, as technology advances, the need to combat crimes like these increases, particularly in areas like general-news and crime-and-justice.
