Increased costs for the majority of MG4 electric hatchback models in Australia
The British automobile manufacturer, MG, has announced a pricing update for its popular electric hatchback, the MG4, effective from July 1, 2024. This update applies to all variants, including the base model, which continues to offer V2L functionality, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay.
Since its launch in late 2023, the MG4 has sold over 10,000 units worldwide. The new pricing reflects competitive adjustments and incentives, such as MG's £1,500 electric car grant in the UK combined with a test drive discount.
In the UK, the entry-level MG4 EV with the Standard Range battery is priced at around £26,995. The MG4 XPower variant, recently discounted by £2,500, is now available for about £34,495.
In Australia, the 2024 MG4 Excite 64 150kW model starts from about AUD 38,800 excluding on-road costs. The pricing for the MG4 variants is as follows:

The Excite and Essence variants, both equipped with a 64 kWh battery pack, can deliver up to 450 km and 530 km of range on a single charge, respectively. The entry-level Excite 51 variant will increase by $1,000, starting at $37,990. The Essence 77 variant will have a drive-away price starting from $50,990.
Notably, the MY25 MG4 will now be priced above the BYD Dolphin Essential and the GWM Ora. However, MG Motor Australia's CEO, Peter Ciao, maintains that the MG4 still delivers "unbeatable value" for Australian families.
In India, the MG4 EV is expected to be priced from approximately ₹30 lakh (ex-showroom) upon its anticipated launch around April 2024 or later in 2025. This price is tentative and subject to change.
Riz Akhtar, the founder of carloop, a platform aiming to reduce transport emissions in Australia, expressed his enthusiasm for the MG4, stating, "The MG4 offers an excellent balance of performance, range, and affordability, making it an attractive option for those looking to transition to electric vehicles."
The X-Power performance variant will remain at its current driveaway price of $55,990. MG4 owners also benefit from the company's benchmark warranty program, which includes a 10-year or 250,000 km warranty across its entire range.
