increase in Super Bowl geolocation checks by GeoComply by 23%
GeoComply Reports Record-Breaking Super Bowl Betting Activity
Geolocation specialist GeoComply has released data showing a significant increase in geolocation checks during last weekend's Super Bowl, marking a 22.3% rise compared to the same period last year.
According to the data analysis, the U.S. states with the most new online sports betting accounts created since the start of the 2023/24 season are typically Nevada, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. The Super Bowl weekend saw a total of 8.5 million active sports betting accounts, representing a 15% year-on-year increase.
Minutes before the beginning of the Big Game, GeoComply recorded a spike in betting activity resulting in 14.75 thousand transactions per second (TPS). This is almost double the last Super Bowl's peak and is the highest TPS ever recorded on GeoComply's systems.
Anna Sainsbury, the co-founder and CEO of GeoComply, praised the record-breaking results during the first Super Bowl in Nevada. She emphasized that GeoComply is committed to promoting compliance and helping its clients reliably and responsibly expand the 'player funnel.'
Sainsbury stated that GeoComply is proud to help foster the growth of a regulated sports betting industry that prioritizes player protection, accountability, and security. She concluded that innovation is at the core of GeoComply's brand, and they aim to improve their technology for the next Super Bowl, expecting more states and players to join.
GeoComply's technology blends geolocation precision with a 'rock-solid player experience,' according to Sainsbury. The two weeks leading up to the Super Bowl resulted in over 1.77 million new users creating legal online betting accounts.
The growth marks an 'important shift' toward a state-regulated, taxed, and secure betting ecosystem in the U.S., as per Sainsbury. Every year the legal market grows is good news for consumers and states and bad news for illegal offshore sportsbooks that become marginalized.
Two aspects of GeoComply's platform, as per Sainsbury, are critical to the betting industry's success. These include ensuring geolocation accuracy and providing a seamless user experience. GeoComply analyzed data across 28 US states, Washington DC, and Puerto Rico to gather the Super Bowl betting activity data.
GeoComply intends to continue placing innovation at the forefront of its brand, striving to improve its technology and contribute to the growth of the regulated sports betting industry.
