In an exciting development for the electric vehicle industry, Chinese automaker BYD Auto's luxury brand, Yangwang, has unveiled a new prototype of its blazingly fast electric supercar, the Yangwang U9 02.
The U9 02, following in the footsteps of its predecessor, the U9 01, is equipped with BYD's proprietary e4 (Yi Sifang) platform. This innovative technology integrates four individual motors, each producing a peak power of 555 kW, combining for a total system output of an astonishing 2,220 kW (2,978 hp or 3,018 ps).
The U9 02's aerodynamic design contributes significantly to its stability and performance, allowing it to achieve record-setting speeds. In August 2023, the U9 02 set a new global electric vehicle speed record, reaching a blistering 472.41 km/h (293.28 mph) during a track run.
The U9 02's impressive performance is further supported by domestically developed high-performance tires designed for speeds of up to 500 km/h (310 mph). Its advanced 1200V platform is a key technology enabling its record-setting speeds, allowing the electric motors to draw energy with greater efficiency.
The U9 02's DiSus-X active control system ensures stability and significantly improves grip and handling during aggressive maneuvers. This advanced technology, combined with the car's powerful motors, ensures a thrilling driving experience.
In November 2024, the U9 previously recorded a Nürburgring lap time of 7 minutes and 17 seconds, demonstrating its track capabilities beyond straight-line speed. The U9's power-to-weight ratio of 1,200 hp per ton surpasses even some of the most elite hypercars on the market, such as the Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut.
BYD has officially released a teaser video for the U9 02 test vehicle, but no detailed design or specification information was provided. The manufacturer of the Yangwang U9 is BYD Auto, and it was first officially announced on April 6, 2023.
The U9's new prototype follows its previous achievements, aiming to set new records in the electric vehicle industry. The U9 01, a previous test car by Yangwang, has set a series of impressive achievements, including the fastest car in China with a 391.94 km/h (243.54 mph) run in October 2024.
The electric supercar Yangwang U9 02, developed by BYD, is claimed to have the world's strongest horsepower of 2,220 kW (2,978 hp). With its powerful motors, advanced technology, and impressive design, the U9 02 is poised to make a significant impact on the electric vehicle industry.
