Venturing into AI-Powered Healthcare: IIT Delhi and AIIMS Delhi Form Alliance
In a groundbreaking move to revolutionize healthcare, two renowned Indian institutions, IIT Delhi and AIIMS Delhi, have joined forces to found the AI Center of Excellence (AI-CoE). This iconic collaboration was officially sealed with a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at an event held on the IIT Delhi campus, with Prof. M. Srinivas, Director of AIIMS Delhi, and Prof. Rangan Banerjee, Director of IIT Delhi, as signatories.

The AI-CoE aims to serve as a national research and development hub, focusing on creating AI-driven healthcare solutions. These innovations are designed to strengthen and support key national health programs, delivering scalable, affordable, and accessible medical technology solutions.
Financial Backing and Government Support
securing a significant ₹330 crore grant under the Ministry of Education's "Make AI in India, Make AI Work for India" initiative in 2024. The AI-CoE will be the primary executing body for this grant, following a stringent selection process that praised the potential impact and collaborative prowess of both institutions.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. M. Srinivas, Director of AIIMS Delhi, expressed optimism about the partnership and hailed it as a significant stepping stone. Our guiding principle remains putting patients at the core of this endeavor, with the ultimate goal of building mechanisms that can benefit all Indian citizens."
From IIT Delhi's side, Prof. Chetan Arora, who will lead the Center of Excellence, elucidated the broader vision of the initiative. He expounded, "We are elated to be part of this AI-CoE. Our vision is for the CoE to serve as a key research and resource center at the national and international level, aspiring to fundamentally transform the national public health system using indigenously developed AI systems and solutions. Our missions are to pioneer cutting-edge AI solutions to enhance health services, upskill healthcare providers, and improve the accessibility of quality healthcare to remote and marginalized sectors of our population."
Prof. Arora further highlighted the rich research history of collaboration between the two institutions, asserting, "The AI-CoE builds on a robust history of research collaboration between IIT Delhi and AIIMS Delhi. We aim to establish a revolutionary new model of collaboration between healthcare and AI technology research, not just in India, but globally."
