Huawei Unveils Atlas 950 SuperCluster to Challenge Nvidia in AI
Huawei has revealed its latest data-center scale AI solution, the Atlas 950 SuperCluster, at the Huawei Connect 2025 conference. This new system is set to challenge Nvidia's Rubin-based systems in late 2026.
The SuperCluster 950 boasts impressive performance, offering 1 FP4 ZettaFLOPS for AI inference and 524 FP8 ExaFLOPS for AI training. This power is achieved through 64 Atlas 950 SuperPoDs, each housing 8,192 Ascend 950DT AI accelerators. The system is designed to handle AI models with hundreds of billions to tens of trillions of parameters.
Huawei plans to further advance this technology. In 2027, they aim to launch the Atlas 960 SuperCluster, featuring over 1 million Ascend 960 NPUs and delivering at least 2 FP8 ZettaFLOPS and 4 MXFP4 ZettaFLOPS of performance. This successor will also require a substantial footprint, approximately 1,000 square meters.
The Atlas 950 SuperCluster, with its high performance and large-scale design, is set to make waves in the AI market. Huawei's continued investment in AI technology, as seen with the planned Atlas 960 SuperCluster, underscores their commitment to pushing the boundaries of AI capabilities.
