Hino's 300 Hybrid Model Makes Its South African Premiere

The Hino 300 Hybrid, an eco-friendly iteration of its class-leading hybrid technology, has been introduced in South Africa as part of a broader strategy to evaluate cleaner transport solutions. This hybrid vehicle is set to offer a balanced approach to reducing environmental impact while maintaining the performance and reliability that commercial truck operators need.

Key Features

The Hino 300 Hybrid is equipped with a 4-litre Euro 6 turbo-diesel engine paired with an electric motor. Unlike many hybrid passenger cars, the Hino 300 Hybrid retains its full-sized diesel unit to ensure longevity and an under-stressed drivetrain. This setup offers up to 111kW of power and 470Nm of torque, with full torque available at just 1,200rpm, designed to provide robust performance while reducing emissions. The vehicle also features a six-speed automated manual transmission (AMT) with an optional manual override, suitable for stop-start urban deliveries and enhancing driver ease.

Benefits

The hybrid technology is designed to cut emissions significantly, contributing to a cleaner environment and aligning with Toyota South Africa Motors' New Energy Vehicle (NEV) strategy. The vehicle is expected to improve fuel efficiency, making it more economical for commercial operations. By retaining the full-sized diesel engine, the Hino 300 Hybrid maintains the durability and performance required by commercial operators without sacrificing power for the added benefit of reduced emissions.

The trials in South Africa are part of a broader effort to study the vehicle's performance and garner customer feedback, which will help tailor the product to local market needs. The Hino 300 Hybrid is also equipped with comprehensive safety features such as an Anti-Lock Braking System and a Multi-function display, making it a reliable partner for various business needs.

Suitability and Availability

The Hino 300 Hybrid is suitable for both home building and goods transportation, and its introduction is planned for key customers. The vehicle's hybrid powertrain offers a cleaner drive for consumers, contributing to a more sustainable future for the transportation industry in South Africa. Hino South Africa's drive to advance mobility solutions in South Africa is evident in the introduction of the Hino 300 Hybrid, a testament to their commitment to innovation and sustainability.
