High-speed Gigabit Internet from Vodafone: Construction of data superhighways reaches over 2,000 homes in Krefeld County

In a significant move towards enhancing digital connectivity, Vodafone, in partnership with OXG, plans to establish up to seven million new FTTH (Fibre-to-the-Home) fiber optic connections across Germany over the coming years. This ambitious project will pave the way for data-intensive applications such as video conferencing, music, and video streaming, transforming the nation's digital landscape.

The construction of these new data superhighways will not only cater to the growing demand for high-speed internet but also ensure a more reliable connection for users. The network segments have been divided with additional fiber optic nodes, resulting in fewer internet users simultaneously in the same area and each customer receiving significantly more reliable speed.

Vodafone's commitment to sustainability is evident as the company aims to be carbon neutral by 2025 and emission-free by 2040. The company is already meeting its electricity needs with 100% renewable energies.

Vodafone's network reaches over 90% of the German population with its 5G network, and its machine network (Narrowband IoT) operates on more than 97% of the German surface area.

In Krefeld, a city in North Rhine-Westphalia, approximately 2,000 cable households now have access to a significantly more stable and powerful fixed network, following a modernization measure completed by Vodafone GmbH. The modernization includes two construction projects to improve the cable-fiber optic network's stability and speed.

The rapid growth in data traffic in the Krefeld district, currently at an annual rate of 12%, underscores the need for such infrastructure upgrades. Last year, Vodafone carried out over 3,500 construction measures in cities and districts throughout Germany to improve network quality.

Vodafone Germany is one of the leading communications conglomerates in the country, providing internet, mobile, fixed-line, and TV services. The company's investments in the expansion of the broadband network aim to meet the strong demand of the population.

In the recent CHIP Fixed Network Test 2024, Vodafone's cable internet was awarded the test winner among national providers for the second time in a row, further highlighting the company's dedication to delivering high-quality services.

Vodafone promotes diversity through numerous measures, including offers to balance family and work, as well as networks for women, fathers, or LGBT+. The company respects and values all people, regardless of their ethnic origin, disability, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, belief, culture, or religion.

As a subsidiary of the Vodafone Group, one of the largest telecommunications conglomerates in the world, Vodafone Germany continues to play a crucial role in connecting millions of people and reaching two-thirds of all German households with gigabit speed in its nationwide cable-fiber network. With its ongoing infrastructure improvements, Vodafone is poised to continue shaping the digital future of Germany.

Technology such as data-and-cloud-computing solutions will be more effectively leveraged with the expansion of Vodafone's fiber optic network, fostering innovative applications in the digital landscape of Germany. This technology upgrade, executed through the construction of new FTTH connections, will also enhance the reliability and speed of internet connections for millions of users.
