Hamburg Leads 'North Meets North' Hydrogen Dialogue for Clean Energy Collaboration

The 'North Meets North Hydrogen Dialogue' recently took place, bringing together Northern Germany and North England to foster collaboration in the green hydrogen sector. Hamburg, aiming to be the European hydrogen hub, led the discussions, with 27 large-scale projects already selected for funding under the Important Projects of Common European Interest (IPCEI) program last year.

Hamburg's Senator for Economics and Innovation, Michael Westhagemann, stressed the city's commitment to developing a green hydrogen economy by 2035. Representatives from HY-5, a North German hydrogen network, and the British Department for International Trade explored opportunities for cooperation and growth potential in the hydrogen sector. The Northern Powerhouse in the UK and Northern Germany are working together to secure clean energy independence through hydrogen collaboration.

At the Hydrogen Technology Expo in Bremen, HY-5 presented major projects from five federal states. These projects, along with others, were presented at the International Hydrogen Fair in Bremen and received funding from the Federal Ministries of Economics and Transport under the IPCEI program in 2021. The specific projects presented by HY-5 were not detailed in the available information.

The 'North Meets North Hydrogen Dialogue' has set the stage for increased cooperation between Northern Germany and North England in the green hydrogen sector. With Hamburg's ambitious plans and the support of initiatives like HY-5, the region is poised to become a global leader in hydrogen technology, driving progress towards a clean energy future.
