Government of Saarland in Berlin - Cabinet discussion, dialogues, and cultural celebration
On Thursday, May 22, 2025, the Saarland state government will convene for a cabinet retreat at the Saarland Representation in Berlin. The event, which will take place from 9 a.m. to a musical evening, aims to engage in discussions with the new federal government about the future themes of Saarland.
The retreat will include meetings with key politicians and representatives. Among them are Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Bärbel Bas, and Dr. Rolf Bösinger, State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Finance. The state government also plans to exchange views with Marcel Fratzscher, President of the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW), on economic policy impulses.
In addition to these formal discussions, the evening will be filled with cultural activities. A cultural reception will be held at the Saarland Representation starting at 7 p.m., hosted by Federal Council President and Minister President Anke Rehlinger. The event will feature information booths representing France, Poland, the Netherlands, Kazakhstan, and Mexico, as well as a Saarland food truck with French influences.
Around 50 trainees from the Saarland steel and automotive industry will participate in the event, showcasing the region's industrial strength. The Saar-Polygon association will be presented under the motto "Future through Change".
International cooperation is a key focus during Anke Rehlinger's presidency, and this is reflected in the event's programme. The Franco-German and the German-Polish Youth Office, as well as Tourism Central Saarland, will also be attending the event.
The evening will be musically accompanied by the marching band of the Saarland police, opera interpretations by Joachim Arnold, and the band LINDYANA. A highlight of the cultural programme will be the unveiling of a large-scale artwork by artist RESO on the facade of the representation.
A discussion with representatives of GOOGLE about opportunities and challenges in the field of artificial intelligence for the economy and administration is also scheduled, reflecting the importance of technology in Saarland's future.
The Saarland State Government will also be hosting a delegation of the Saarland Brigade of the German Armed Forces. This event promises to be a unique opportunity for dialogue, cultural exchange, and the presentation of Saarland's strengths and aspirations.
