Government Entity Metsähallitus Chooses Arenso for Environmental Impact Assessment on Their Finnish Website
In a significant stride towards increasing renewable energy production, the Finnish government has announced an offshore wind auction round with a capacity of 3 GW. This auction round, open for participation, is for potential developers and aims to attract international players in the industry.
The auction round is focused on projects in Finnish territorial waters, with the project area for wind power production already designated in the Maritime Spatial Plan and the draft of the North Ostrobothnia energy and climate phase regional land use plan. Among the projects included in the auction round are Ebba, Edith, and Korsnaäs, with Ebba being part of Metsähallitus' portfolio of offshore wind projects being developed in territorial waters.
The project area for the Ebba project is located off the coast of Pyhäjoki and Raahe. Metsähallitus, the Finnish state-owned forestry company, has selected Arenso Oy for the technical planning of the environmental impact assessment (EIA) programme phase of the Ebba project. Arenso is responsible for the early-stage technical design work that supports the EIA process and enables a more detailed assessment of turbine placement and marine infrastructure.
Esa Holttinen, Business Director at Arenso, stated that Arenso's expertise in developing offshore wind power concepts suitable for the icy conditions of the Baltic Sea will be applied in the planning of the Ebba project.
The planned offshore wind farm has an estimated capacity of 1.4 GW. The planning work for the project will commence in autumn 2025, and the details of the auction round can be found on OffshoreWIND.biz, a platform for our website professionals.
Metsähallitus is also developing the Edith and Korsnaäs offshore wind farms, and this auction round is a significant step in Finland's renewable energy strategy. With the auction round, Finland aims to boost its offshore wind energy capacity and contribute to the global fight against climate change.
