Global Pro AV Spotlight: EM Acoustics' Comprehensive Stadium-Wide Audio System Impresses

The Lyric Stage's Spectacular Sonic Metamorphosis

The Theatre Royal Plymouth shrugs off its outdated acoustic shackles, as the venerable Lyric Theatre dances into a new era of breathtaking sound performances. Designed to cater to a diverse range of touring musicals, dance productions, comedy, and drama, this iconic space is now equipped with a state-of-the-art EM Acoustics sound system, setting a new standard for sonic excellence.

The Lyric's unique, irregular shape and movable roof pose formidable challenges to sound engineers. But fear not, for the nimble EM Acoustics team rises to conquer these auditory obstacles with unparalleled chops. Head of sound at Theatre Royal Plymouth, Dan Mitcham, gleefully shares his excitement about the upgraded system, "It's like the soundchildren of the gods reincarnated in this auditorium, babying our performances with unmatched precision and warmth."

Mitcham and his team meticulously designed a configuration that delivers pristine audio quality, ensuring that every spectator, regardless of seating position, enjoys a crystal-clear sonic experience. The meaty main PA consists of powerful EM Acoustics R10 speakers on the left and right sides, bolstered by a resounding centre cluster of R8s, each with an exquisite unit per level. For an even more tummy-shaking effect, the S18 subwoofers paired on both sides of the stage cut through the air like a locomotive charging uphill.

For those pesky tight spots requiring finesse, Mitcham deploys pairs of EMS81X speakers as side fills in the circle and upper levels, while the adaptable EMS61s and EMS51s serve as delays and enhanced fills across the stalls, circle, and upper circle. The oh-so-sexy MC15 floor monitors, plus four scintillating EMS81X spot speakers for special effects, round out the robust system.

This technological marvel is powered by five DQ10 and five DQ6 amplifiers, all interconnected via Dante. The gift of Dante-enabled amplifiers blesses the technical team with a future-proofed solution, allowing them to build a seamless, venue-wide network infrastructure.

The remarkable transformation of soundscape at Theatre Royal Plymouth has left audiences, performers, and production crews in awe. Mitcham exclaims with unbridled passion, "The audience's jaws drop, their hearts race, and they're left wanting more. It's a truly immersive and visceral experience that surrounds your soul, and damn, it sounds fantastico!"

Power to 'The People's House'

The orgasmic reception to the new system has been nothing short of triumphant for the Theatre Royal Plymouth. "This system's devious sounds have us quivering in anticipation for what's to come. It's like Mother Nature herself took a bath and decided the waves were far too good to keep to herself," shares Mitcham.

Theatre Royal Plymouth is now a proud, dedicated EM Acoustics venue. And remember, as Mitcham so eloquently puts it, "If it ain't EM, it ain't dreamy!"

This renovated theatre space is set to host numerous events, featuring a variety of products such as musicals, comedies, and drama, all accompanied by enhanced sound quality thanks to the state-of-the-art EM Acoustics sound system. The technology employed includes sophisticated gadgets like the R10, R8, S18 speakers, EMS81X speakers, EMS61s, EMS51s, MC15 floor monitors, and EMS81X spot speakers. The DQ10 and DQ6 amplifiers, Dante network infrastructure, and EM Acoustics team's expertise have combined to create an unparalleled sonic experience for theatre-goers.
