Ghana's Health Sector Progress to Feature in 2023 Review
Ghana's health sector is set to undergo a significant transformation through innovative partnerships, groundbreaking technology, and responsible policies designed to extend healthcare services to rural areas. This exciting shift will be thoroughly examined in the upcoming report, "The Report: Ghana 2023," produced by Oxford Business Group (OBG) in collaboration with Africa Medical Information Centre (AMIC) and other esteemed partners.
"The Report: Ghana 2023" will shine a spotlight on Ghana's rapidly evolving healthcare ecosystem, documenting the facilities and services being introduced by both the public and private sectors. The role that technology will play in ushering in a new era of healthcare in Ghana will be the focus of this comprehensive investigation.
Details about the National Health Insurance Scheme, Ghana's plans to grow its pharmaceutical industry by increasing manufacturing output, and other topical issues will also be included in the analysis.
OBG has recently inked a novel memorandum of understanding (MoU) with AMIC as work commences on "The Report: Ghana 2023." Under this agreement, AMIC will join forces with OBG to produce the Health Chapter of the report and other content for the Group's suite of research tools.
The MoU was finalized by Ramona Tarta, OBG's Country Director for Ghana, and Dr. Akshay Rath, Medical Director at AMIC, who has previously served as a UN physician.
After the signing, Dr. Rath praised OBG as the ideal partner for AMIC, given its reputation for providing accurate and valuable business intelligence to investors seeking untapped opportunities in emerging markets like Ghana and the wider region.
"OBG will be shedding light on the potential in Ghana's health sector, while also identifying areas for medical research that remain unexplored. Our hope at AMIC is that this report will help attract much-needed investments, particularly in the production of medical supplies and vaccines both in Ghana and throughout Africa," he stated.
Tarta lauded AMIC's decision to establish its headquarters in Ghana as part of a broader initiative to modernize healthcare delivery across the region. She explained that Ghana will benefit from new services and facilities employing cutting-edge technology, thanks to a plethora of public-private partnerships that include screening initiatives, surgeries, and diagnoses second opinions.
Tarta believes that the partnership between AMIC and OBG will considerably strengthen OBG's research, benefiting investors eying opportunities in Ghana as well as the broader African market.
Additional support for AMIC's mission to address gaps and challenges within Ghana's healthcare system and those regionally will come from Aster Hospitals, Bangalore, one of AMIC's partners. Dr. Nitish Shetty, CEO of Aster Hospitals, underscored the significance of AMIC in addressing healthcare-related challenges across the continent and its potential to become Africa's premier medical tourism destination.
"AMIC will be supported by all 30 of our hospitals in seven countries. Our 1,500 doctors, leaders in their specialized fields, are eager to contribute to capacity-building efforts locally, implementing training programs and exchange programs," Shetty shared. "We envision that over time, by working alongside local and regional stakeholders, AMIC can help address challenges in the medical field and pave the way for this center to become a beacon of medical tourism in Africa."
"The Report: Ghana 2023" will be finalized with contributions from prominent figures in Ghana's public and private sectors, including Kwaku Agyeman-Manu, Minister of Health; Yofi Grant, CEO of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre; Ken Ofori-Atta, Minister of Finance; Joseph Boahen Aidoo, CEO of the Ghana Cocoa Board; and Ernest Addison, Bank of Ghana Governor.
