Genetech introduces prostate cancer patient assistance tool via mobile application

In the face of a rising tide of prostate cancer cases in the UK, where the disease is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in men, a new solution is emerging to address both the physical and psychosocial needs of patients. The HealthiumPro system, developed by Camgenium in partnership with Professor Petre Cristian Ilie, aims to revolutionise the way prostate cancer is managed and treated.

The HealthiumPro system is built on the flexible Xenplate platform, allowing for a drag-and-drop design methodology that minimises the need for bespoke coding. This system has already received regulatory approval to host on the NHS private network, HSCN, and is currently in operation at various hospitals, improving patient care.

One of the key features of the HealthiumPro system is the HealthiumPro Stent Register. This innovative tool streamlines the logging and tracking of stent insertions, ensuring timely removal or exchange. Additionally, clinicians can remotely monitor patients' blood pressure and temperature through the system, enhancing patient care and safety.

For patients, the HealthiumPro app provides a simple and intuitive interface, allowing them to sign consent forms, receive pre-surgery information, access recommended pre-surgical exercises, and view upcoming appointment information. This digital approach not only improves the patient experience but also contributes to increased efficiency in hospitals.

Recognising the psychosocial challenges faced by prostate cancer survivors, HealthiumPro is also designed to address these needs. The system integrates comprehensive psychosocial assessments, multidisciplinary support services, tailored psychological interventions, partner and family support programs, improved communication and education, and even the potential use of emerging radiotherapy techniques like SBRT.

As the rate of incidence of prostate cancer is expected to increase by 15% between 2023 and 2040, the need for solutions like HealthiumPro becomes increasingly urgent. With its focus on patient safety, outcomes, and efficiency, HealthiumPro is ready for nationwide implementation in other healthcare settings, providing a beacon of hope in the fight against prostate cancer.

Dr. Philip Gaffney, CEO of Camgenium, expressed the company's honour in enabling the HealthiumPro system, stating that it is their mission to improve the lives of those affected by prostate cancer. As the UK braces for a future with significantly more prostate cancer cases, solutions like HealthiumPro offer a glimmer of hope for improved patient care and outcomes.
