The Gemini app, a popular communication tool developed by Google, has recently undergone significant updates. As of early July 2025, the updated Gemini icon, featuring Google's signature four-color (red, yellow, green, blue) design, is rolling out on the Gemini app for Android and iOS.

The new icon, with rounded points and a larger size, brings the Gemini app closer to other Google applications in design. The updated icon is less dense than before, with one less shortcut at some sizes, and at small sizes, it does not fade out into very thin lines. At 3x3 and above, the homescreen widget includes all eight shortcuts: open app, voice input, Camera, Gallery, Files, Video, Screenshare, and Live.

One of the most notable changes is the addition of shortcuts for Video and Screenshare that launch those Gemini Live modes directly from the homescreen widget on both Android and iOS. However, it's worth noting that the widget is less dense than before, with one less shortcut at some sizes.

As for the web version, the new Gemini icon has not yet been updated on gemini.google.com, but the update to the web interface is presumably imminent based on the app rollout timing and Google's pattern of updates.

In addition to the new icon and improved homescreen widget, there are other changes to the Gemini app. On Android, the "Ask Gemini" field is now just the "Gemini" bar with Google no longer giving it a separate Dynamic Color background. On iOS, tapping the chat icon in the top-left corner reveals the new search field, but this feature is not yet available on Android.

Lastly, version 1.0.776555963 of the Gemini app is now widely available via the Play Store on Android. The new logo has a gradient at center-left similar to the current 'G' icon, and the four points of the new logo are rounded and less sharp than before.

These updates aim to enhance the user experience and bring the Gemini app in line with Google's design philosophy. Stay tuned for more updates as they roll out.

  1. The new design of the Gemini app, including the addition of shortcuts for Video and Screenshare within the homescreen widget, reflects Google's intention to make it more coherent with other Google applications in terms of design.
  2. Aside from the revamped Gemini icon and enhanced homescreen widget, the updated Gemini app also features changes in its interface, such as the integration of the "Ask Gemini" field into the main Gemini bar on Android, and the introduction of a new search field upon tapping the chat icon on iOS.
