Geely Automobile Company submits application for the manufacturing of Starshine 6 hybrid sedan model, aiming to sustain robust development pace
The Chinese automaker, Geely Galaxy, has announced the arrival of a new addition to its hybrid lineup – the Starshine 6. This midsize plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) sedan is poised to offer a cost-effective and eco-friendly option for consumers.
Key Specifications and Features
The Starshine 6 boasts a sleek design with dimensions of 4,806 mm in length, 1,886 mm in width, and 1,490 mm in height, and a wheelbase of 2,756 mm. The curb weight ranges from 1,505 to 1,580 kilograms, and it supports a maximum speed of 180 kilometers per hour.
Under the hood, the Starshine 6 is powered by a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated engine, producing approximately 82 kW (about 110 hp). The hybrid system pairs this engine with an electric motor, as part of Geely’s next-generation EM-i super hybrid system. The combined output includes an engine output of roughly 111 PS and an electric motor output around 238 PS.
The Starshine 6 uses lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries supplied by Chinese battery manufacturers CALB and Rept Battero Energy. These batteries support a pure electric range of about 150 km and a total range exceeding 2,100 km.
Pricing and Production
The Starshine 6 is expected to be priced lower than the larger Starshine 8, with a starting price likely below RMB 125,000. This competitive pricing strategy positions the Starshine 6 as an attractive option in the midsize PHEV market.
The Starshine 6 will be produced at Geely’s factory in Huzhou, Zhejiang province, China.
Positioning in Geely's Lineup
The Starshine 6 sits between Geely Galaxy’s C-segment L6 and D-segment A7 models, and it may succeed the L6, offering a more cost-effective sedan option in Geely's expanding hybrid lineup.
Geely's Hybrid Market Growth
The announcement of the Starshine 6 comes at a time when Geely Galaxy has seen strong growth over the past year. In the first half of this year, Geely sold 1,409,180 vehicles, a year-on-year increase of 47.45 percent. Geely Galaxy alone sold 548,408 vehicles in the first half of this year, a year-on-year increase of 232.00 percent.
The Starshine 6, with its sizeable electric range and modern hybrid technology, is a testament to Geely’s commitment to maintaining its strong growth in the hybrid market segment.
