Expansion of Cross-IX as AMS-IX provides outbound service to Netnod IX in Stockholm and MIX to an unspecified location

In a significant move to strengthen the digital infrastructure in Europe, the Cross-IX service, a collaboration between AMS-IX, MIX, and Netnod, has announced the launch of its second phase. This expansion sees the service now available in outbound mode from AMS-IX in Amsterdam to Netnod IX in Stockholm and MIX in an unspecified city.

Alessandro Talotta, Executive President and Chairman of MIX, expressed his pleasure with the agreement, stating that it strengthens the collaboration between European Internet Exchange Points (IXPs) for the benefit of their customers. Karin Ahl, CEO of Netnod, echoed this sentiment, expressing pride in strengthening the collaboration with AMS-IX and delivering value to their customers.

The Cross-IX service offers a simple solution to reach major European connectivity hubs through a single Virtual Local Area Network (VLAN), without the need for additional hardware or transport agreements. This service enables networks to perform peering between major European hubs, a move that is expected to enhance connectivity in Europe significantly.

Peter van Burgel, CEO of AMS-IX, stated that as the Cross-IX ecosystem grows, customers and members can benefit from even simpler and more immediate connectivity to hundreds of Autonomous System Numbers (ASNs) across Europe. He also expressed his pleasure at offering a comprehensive solution to members and customers together with trusted partners MIX and Netnod, and looked forward to witnessing the further expansion of the Cross-IX service.

Direct connections from AMS-IX to Netnod IX Stockholm are now enabled, making it easier for networks to reach the Nordic peering hub. Similarly, connections to MIX in an unspecified city are now available, contributing to the significant growth in terms of interconnections and hubs supporting the development of digital infrastructure in the city and Italy.

Additional connectivity hubs for Cross-IX are planned to be activated soon. A new data center DC3 of MIX at the Caldera campus will further contribute to this process. For more information about Cross-IX, visit their official website here.

It is worth noting that while there are no specific details available about Cross-IX’s expansion plan, expansion plans for such services typically involve increasing the number of Points of Presence (PoPs) in major European cities, upgrading infrastructure for higher capacity, and enhancing interconnection diversity to improve performance and reach. For the latest and precise details, checking Cross-IX’s official website or press releases directly would be necessary.

Karin Ahl, CEO of Netnod, stated that the new phase of Cross-IX service simplifies interconnections between networks in Europe. All connections can be managed through a single contract and can be activated on an existing (or new) port.

With these expansions and partnerships, the Cross-IX service is set to offer even more opportunities for networks to connect and exchange traffic across Europe, further enhancing the digital infrastructure in the region.

  1. The Cross-IX service, with its expansion now enabling direct connections from AMS-IX to technology hubs like MIX and Netnod, is poised to revolutionize finance in Europe by offering simpler and more immediate connectivity for networks.
  2. As the Cross-IX service expands, integrating technology like Virtual Local Area Network (VLAN) and planned activation of additional connectivity hubs, it promises to foster growth in the sports and industry sectors across Europe by improving interconnection diversity and performance.
