Expands satellite constellation through the deployment of 5 new satellites, crafted by Alén Space
Sateliot, a dual-use 5G satellite connectivity operator based in Spain, is set to expand its low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite constellation with the commissioning of five new satellites from Alén Space. This follows a successful collaboration between the two companies on the manufacture of the first four commercial satellites, scheduled for launch in 2024.
The upcoming satellites will feature significant enhancements compared to the models already in orbit, boasting increased payload capacity and improved performance. This development will enable Sateliot to support a broader array of services across various sectors, including agriculture, shipping, and territorial monitoring, as well as critical defense and emergency response applications.
Sateliot's proprietary technology, developed in Barcelona, has been validated by the 3GPP international telecommunications standards body to ensure secure, interoperable global coverage. The company's strategic alignment with Europe's goal of achieving autonomy in space technology is evident in this expansion.
With over €270 million in existing contracts and a target of €1 billion in revenue by 2030, Sateliot is poised to play a significant role in the burgeoning satellite 5G connectivity market. The new satellites will be part of Sateliot's LEO network, contributing to global IoT coverage and secure communications.
Guillermo Lamelas, the CEO of Alén Space, expressed his excitement about the collaboration, stating that it strengthens their position as the most reliable small satellite manufacturer. Jaume Sanpera, the CEO of Sateliot, emphasised that the project demonstrates the capability to build critical infrastructure from scratch in Spain.
The satellites will be manufactured at Alén Space's facilities in Nigrán, Spain. If successful, this project will redefine the future of communications from Spain, reinforcing Sateliot's position in line with Europe's push for space autonomy.
The new satellites, manufactured by Alén Space, will incorporate advanced technology in space-and-astronomy, featuring enhancements such as increased payload capacity and improved performance. This development in satellite science will aid Sateliot in offering a wider range of services, including defense, emergency response, agriculture, shipping, and territorial monitoring.
