Expanding IoT connectivity management platforms predicted for robust expansion by Berg Insight

In the rapidly growing world of Internet of Things (IoT), the focus on security, automation, and consolidation is at the forefront of the latest trends in IoT Connectivity Management Platform (CMP) providers.

According to recent market dynamics, key features such as multilayered security, increased automation, RSP platform integrations, eSIM orchestration, and machine learning-based analytics are becoming increasingly prevalent in CMPs. These enhancements aim to bolster device and data protection, operational efficiency, and compliance.

The CMP market is projected to grow significantly, with a valuation of USD 1 billion in 2024 and an expected surge to exceed USD 1.8 billion by 2029, reflecting expanding investment and innovation in connectivity and security management.

At the heart of this evolution is the implementation of multilayered security. Leading CMPs, like Cisco's IoT Control Center, protect services, devices, data, and systems from unauthorized access through real-time monitoring that detects and responds to unusual device behavior.

RSP platform integration and eSIM orchestration enable zero-touch provisioning of thousands of SIMs, automating device activation and managing connectivity lifecycles. This reduces operational costs and streamlines workflows by automatically selecting rate plans and handling connectivity issues.

Machine learning (ML)-based analytics is another critical component, being increasingly integrated into consent management and security services within IoT CMPs. ML enhances the detection of unusual behaviors, predicts consent preferences, automates compliance processes, and manages risks efficiently in complex IoT environments.

The industry is also moving towards AI-enhanced automation and 3nm+ chip compatibility in semiconductor-related segments of CMPs, signaling a strategic push to capture advanced device connectivity demands.

A new product category, Connectivity Management Orchestration (CMO) platforms, has emerged in the IoT CMP landscape, pioneered by vendors like IoTM Solutions and Simetric. Cisco, one of the largest IoT CMP providers globally, has a strong presence in all major geographies and partnerships with about 60 mobile operators worldwide.

The increased consolidation of mobile operator operations to key markets will result in a growing number of independent mobile operators, increasing the addressable market for third-party CMPs. Berg Insight, a leading research firm, predicts a 12% compound annual growth rate for IoT CMP revenues, from $1.0 billion in 2024 to $1.8 billion in 2029.

In response to the challenge of declining ARPUs for IoT connectivity services, vendors are focusing on offering value-added services that can help mobile operators drive revenue in the enterprise market from their 5G network infrastructure.

Aeris, for instance, took over the loss-making IoT business of Ericsson in early 2023 and has since modernized and streamlined operations, while merging its legacy platform and the IoT Accelerator into a single platform. MAVOCO has emerged as a significant player in recent years, with more than 10 mobile operator partners.

Technology plays a pivotal role in the advancement of the IoT Connectivity Management Platform (CMP), with machine learning and AI-enhanced automation leading the charge. Key features like multilayered security, RSP platform integrations, eSIM orchestration, and machine learning-based analytics are reshaping the CMP landscape by bolstering device and data protection, automating workflows, and improving operational efficiency.
