European debut of high-capacity EV batteries from China's leading battery manufacturer, CATL
In the latest developments in the Batteries sector, Chinese battery giant CATL has unveiled a new EV battery named "Shenxing Pro". This announcement comes as the company continues to expand its presence in the European market.
The new battery, designed specifically for the European market, is set to adapt to the unique driving habits of the region. It promises reliable performance in colder weather, longer lifespans for leased and used vehicles, and efficient power for higher speeds on European highways.
CATL, the world's largest battery maker, operates EV production factories in Germany and Hungary. The company's global journey began in Europe, as revealed by Tan Libin, the chief customer officer of CATL. CATL entered the European market in 2012 through a strategic partnership with German carmaker BMW.
The "Shenxing Pro" battery is based on lithium iron phosphate (LFP) chemistry, a choice that reflects CATL's commitment to sustainability and safety. The battery will be offered in two versions, tailored to the European market.
One version of the battery is a long-life model, designed for up to 12 years or 1 million km of use, with a maximum driving range of 758 km. This makes it an ideal choice for those seeking a reliable and long-lasting battery solution for their electric vehicles.
The other version is a fast-charging model, capable of adding 478 km of range in just 10 minutes of charging. This makes it an attractive option for those who need quick charging times and extended range for their electric vehicles.
CATL now works with approximately 90 percent of European carmakers, a testament to the company's growing influence in the European automotive industry. The company collaborates with European automotive brands such as BMW, Volkswagen, and Mercedes-Benz to supply new electric vehicle batteries for use in Europe.
In addition, a third plant for CATL is under construction in Spain through a joint venture with Stellantis. This expansion further cements CATL's commitment to the European market and its ambition to lead the way in the electric vehicle battery sector.
