Ethereum Foundation Launches 'Privacy Cluster' to Boost Blockchain Privacy
The Ethereum Foundation has launched a new project, 'Privacy Cluster', to fortify privacy aspects within the Ethereum ecosystem. This significant move aims to bolster areas such as real-world assets, funds, trading, and oracles & compliance through robust privacy features.
Privacy Cluster, spearheaded by Igor Barinov and comprising 47 experts, is dedicated to developing and integrating privacy-enhancing features on the Ethereum blockchain. These features include private payments and decentralized identity solutions, all powered by zero-knowledge infrastructures. The cluster will focus on projects like Private Reads/Writes, Private Proving, Private Identities, Privacy Experience, and the Institutional Privacy Task Force. Research will explore zero-knowledge proofs, scalability, confidentiality, and application layer tools like Semaphore and stealth addresses.
The initiative seeks to coordinate efforts to support key privacy features on Ethereum, ultimately enhancing payments, governance, and identity. Kohaku, a privacy-preserving wallet and open-source software development kit, is also a key project for Privacy Cluster.
Funded partly by the sale of 1,000 ETH by the Ethereum Foundation, Privacy Cluster is positioned to significantly impact the privacy landscape of the Ethereum ecosystem. With a focus on advanced cryptography, institutional pilots, and everyday user experience, this cluster aims to strengthen privacy at both the protocol level and for everyday users.
