ESPN's own streaming service set to debut on August 21st
ESPN Launches New Direct-to-Consumer Streaming Service
August 21, 2025, marks the launch of ESPN's highly anticipated direct-to-consumer (DTC) streaming service. The service, priced at a standalone monthly fee of $29.99, offers an unlimited plan providing access to all of ESPN's cable channels and expanded content features.
The service includes live access to ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN on ABC, ESPN+, SEC Network+, and ACC Network Extra. With approximately 47,000 live events per year, subscribers can look forward to coverage of major sports events such as the NFL, NBA, WNBA, MLB, NHL, college sports (football and basketball), NASCAR, INDYCAR, UFC, and the upcoming FIFA World Cup.
The enhanced ESPN App offers a more personalized, dynamic viewing experience for fans. Features include multiview options, integrated game stats, betting information, fantasy sports, commerce, and a personalized SC For You. This app also provides access to ESPN's leading studio shows and a robust, on-demand library, featuring "30 for 30" films, ESPN Originals, replays, and more.
In addition to the standalone service, ESPN has partnered with Fox to offer a combined streaming bundle starting October 2, 2025, for $39.99 per month. This bundle provides access to Fox's sports channels—FS1, FS2, Fox local stations, and entertainment programming—making it one of the most comprehensive streaming options for sports fans.
The new service comes at an opportune time, coinciding with the start of the college football and NFL seasons, the tennis U.S. Open, international soccer, women's college soccer, volleyball, field hockey, and more. All subscribers to ESPN's unlimited plan, whether through ESPN DTC or a traditional pay TV provider, will have access to live and on-demand ESPN's leading studio shows and a robust, on-demand library.
With the launch of this new service, ESPN aims to provide an expanded NFL content offering, including access to Redzone and the NFL Network as part of the rights acquisition, bolstered by NFL involvement in ESPN's equity. This partnership deepens ESPN's NFL content offerings beyond traditional broadcasts, aiming to provide a more premium NFL viewing experience for subscribers.
In summary, the new ESPN DTC service and its bundled option with Fox One offer a highly diversified and extensive sports streaming package, emphasizing NFL coverage with the added benefit of direct NFL equity participation in ESPN.
