Epic Games Files Lawsuit Against Cheaters Holding 'World Records' in Their Games

In a significant move to uphold the integrity of its popular game, Fortnite, Epic Games has successfully sued several individuals involved in creating and selling cheats for the game. The legal action, based on claims of copyright infringement and violations of the game's Terms of Use (EULA), targets both cheat developers and users who promote or distribute cheat tools on platforms like YouTube.

One of the most prominent cases involves Ediz Atas, known online as “Sincey Cheats” and “Vanta Cheats.” In June 2025, Epic filed a lawsuit against Atas, accusing him of developing and distributing cheat software that bypasses Epic’s anti-cheat mechanisms and violates the EULA by providing unfair advantages such as wallhacks and auto-aim features. The lawsuit also alleged that Atas impersonated an Epic Games employee to fight DMCA takedown notices on cheat-related videos on YouTube.

The defendants, who run the YouTube channel "Golden Modz," have over 1.7 million subscribers and have received tens of millions of views. On this channel, cheats were demonstrated, promoted, and sold. The defendants even achieved a "world record" number of kills using the cheats, according to the filed complaint. They sold cheat packages over the Internet, including a "Lifetime of Cheat" option for $299.99.

Epic Games is asking the court to order the defendants to stop cheating, turn over their profits, and pay Epic's attorney fees and costs. The legal actions demonstrate Epic’s firm stance on stopping cheat creation and distribution by pursuing legal recourse through copyright claims and contract (Terms of Use) violations.

It is crucial for gaming platforms to have well-crafted terms of use, as they establish standards of behavior, limits on conduct, ownership of content, and procedures for the platform. Having legally sound and comprehensive terms of service is essential for any gaming platform.

The Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) provides procedures for filing a takedown notice to remove infringing material from the internet. It is important to carefully follow the specific requirements of the service when filing a DMCA takedown notice, as the process can vary depending on the hosting service.

This legal battle underscores the importance of protecting intellectual property and managing a brand's reputation. Epic Games' actions serve as a reminder that cheating in online games not only undermines fair play but can also lead to legal consequences.

Technology plays a crucial role in the development and distribution of gadgets like cheat software, as seen in the case of Ediz Atas and Golden Modz. Epic Games, through legal actions, is emphasizing the importance of adhering to Terms of Use and respecting copyrights to maintain the integrity of their games and protect their brands.
