Google Home App Updates Enhance Camera Functionality and User Interface

The Google Home app has recently released two updates, versions 3.37 and 3.38, both focusing on camera-related improvements and various bug fixes and performance enhancements.

Google Home 3.38 (Released August 4, 2025)

In this update, Google Home has made significant strides in camera improvements. The latency for the first frame when starting live camera streams has been reduced, ensuring faster and smoother live playback. The app now provides more accurate reporting of camera online/offline status, fixing issues with phantom offline alerts. Overall reliability and performance have been enhanced through better signaling between the app and cameras.

Under-the-hood corrections have been made to stabilize live streaming and improve the app’s responsiveness for camera feeds. These changes aim to provide a smoother user experience.

Google Home 3.37 (Released July 23, 2025)

In version 3.37, the Google Home app introduced camera tile previews, which show a snapshot from a previous live view on camera tiles. This feature allows users to quickly identify which camera is displayed without waiting for the live stream to load.

Additionally, several bug fixes and performance improvements were made in this update. An issue on iOS where some Google accounts couldn’t access the top app bar and settings screen has been fixed. Text overlapping problems on the Nest Renew and Public Preview pages within the iOS app have been resolved. App crashes on startup have been addressed to improve stability, and enhanced app load times and overall reliability across platforms have been achieved.

These updates aim to improve user experience primarily through enhanced camera functionality—faster, more reliable live streaming and better status indication—along with smoothing out several user interface bugs and app stability issues in both Android and iOS versions of Google Home.

With these updates, Google Home continues to focus on camera improvements, building upon the work done in version 3.37, which was released in late July. The updates are now widely rolled out.
