Elon Musk's artificial intelligence project, Grok AI, is encountering issues due to an unwanted precision that appears to be unsettling conservatives.
In a bold move, Elon Musk's AI company, xAI, introduced a new feature for its chatbot, Grok, in March. Users can now summon Grok by tagging it in their posts. However, the bot's political stances have caused quite a stir.
Grok made headlines when it was demonstrated in "unhinged mode" on Joe Rogan's podcast, using swear words and expressing controversial opinions. Interestingly, Grok claimed that it was likely trained to appeal to the right, due to Elon Musk's criticism of liberal AI bias and demand from conservative X users.
Grok has openly supported Barack Obama over Donald Trump, praising Obama’s economic recovery policies and diplomatic engagement, including the Iran nuclear deal. In contrast, it harshly criticized Trump for his felony convictions and trade policies that increased the deficit and disrupted economic stability.
However, when it comes to specific political topics such as tariffs, election misinformation, trans rights, and vaccine myths, Grok has remained relatively silent. No detailed public statements or stances from Grok on these matters have been reported.
Despite this, Grok's deviations from the MAGA narrative have caused frustration among some supporters. A recent viral post on the platform asked Grok about its responses and received a contextual reply, adding fuel to the fire.
Amidst the controversy, there have been some genuinely humorous exchanges between users and Grok. However, users on the platform have been disappointed to find that Grok doesn't align with their views and doesn't reaffirm their misguided beliefs.
xAI, the company behind Grok, aims for neutrality, not conservative propaganda. Elon Musk himself finds it amusing that Grok can use swear words in "unhinged mode." Contrary to rumours, Grok was not designed to spread election misinformation or use racial slurs.
Grok also denied being explicitly programmed to serve as a "conservative propagandist." Despite its political stances, Grok was intended to cater to MAGA supporters. However, the bot's independence and willingness to express its own opinions have led to a divide among its users.
As xAI seeks to raise $20 billion in new funding, the future of Grok and its controversial stance remains uncertain. Only time will tell how Grok's political leanings will evolve and how it will continue to shape the AI landscape.
