Elementary Schools in Brandenburg Implement Mobile Phone Prohibition

Starting next school year, mobile devices will be banned from classrooms in primary schools across Brandenburg. The prohibition applies to grades one through six in both regular and special education institutions.

The ban on private mobile phones aims to establish greater clarity and legal certainty for school administrators and educators regarding the management of smartphones in class. Brandenburg's Minister of Education, Steffen Freiberg (SPD), stated that the objective is to guide children towards a measured interaction with the digital world and to instill media literacy.

The regulation allows teachers to exceptionally permit the use of personal mobile phones under certain circumstances. For example, if the devices are necessary for educational purposes or there are medical needs such as using a diabetes app.

By implementing this regulation, the coalition of SPD and BSW is following through on a project outlined in their coalition agreement. The ban on mobile devices is principally intended to enhance educational focus and decrease distractions, creating a more conducive learning environment. This change might contribute to improved academic outcomes by fostering a more focused learning atmosphere and improving the use of classroom time effectively.

  1. The ban on personal mobile phones in Brandenburg's primary schools is part of a broader initiative in policy-and-legislation, aimed at guiding children towards a measured interaction with technology and promoting media literacy in education-and-self-development.
  2. The prohibition of mobile devices in classrooms is being used as a tool to establish greater legal certainty in the management of technology within schools, as well as to minimize distractions and improve focus, thus fostering a more effective learning environment in politics.
  3. The move to ban mobile devices in Brandenburg's primary schools is a piece of general-news that aligns with the coalition agreement between the SPD and BSW, with the ultimate goal being to improve academic outcomes and create a more conducive learning environment through technology management.
